Raw Soil Association certified Organic and blade shorn fleeces from our own small flock of much loved Shetland and Shetland x Gotland / Boreray sheep, who are conservation grazers for our community orchards and biodiverse chalk grassland.
We blade shear each of our sheep by hand, this year (2025) it was so hot early in the Spring that we did all our shearing before the end of April, in order to make the sheep as comfortable as possible. The advantage of this for spinners is that many of our fleeces this year have no ‘rise’ the natural weak point in the locks where the new Spring fleece grows through and the old fleece would once have broken away and shed naturally. This means you can card the fleece without causing any nepps and noils to form from the short length of wool below the rise. If you do buy a fleece which has a rise (most of our shearling fleeces which are super soft)  combing works really well to separate the short and long fibres. We can also recommend our fleeces for making the most beautiful hand felted rugs or sit pads – everything from super soft and drapey shearling fleeces to more robust and rugged sit pads from the britch wool of the older sheep. All fleeces have been carefully graded and skirted.
Amberley –  exceptionally fine shearling fleece from Shetland x Gotland / Boreray wether. This fleece has a small rise. This is possibly the best shearling fleece of the year, super fine and soft wool (Amberley’s Grandad had an exceptionally fine fleece and his Dad was a stunning combination of Boreray, Gotland and Shetland), this fleece will be soft enough to make baby clothes or to wear next to your skin.
Betty – one of our best pure Shetland fleeces. Betty sheared beautifully this year leaving a gorgeous variegated cream / white to light grey fleece with no rise. Her fleece is very fine and spins up to make a beautifully soft yarn.
Marley – another of our best pure Shetland fleeces. Marley is also very fine with plenty of crimp and spins up beautifully to make a soft and springy yarn. His fleece shades from mid grey through to almost white and looks gorgeous both in its natural shades or dyed.

We have a policy of buying no new packaging material for use in posting out parcels, we re-use old packaging gathered from other local businesses, individuals and schools. We hope you will enjoy receiving your parcel, whatever shape and size it is, knowing that it has a little less impact on the environment.
