Description
This beautifully soft pure Shetland yarn is from two of our own lovely ewes – Poppy and Flora. We are currently in conversion to organic status, so our sheep are kept to organic standards and are used for conservation grazing to maintain some of the most bio-diverse chalk grassland on the Hardwick Estate and to graze our community orchards. They are hand shorn by us using blade shears and the fleeces are then gently washed by us, using an eco friendly laundry liquid or unicorn power scour. They are then drum carded and hand spun (short draw), on a traditional Ashford wheel by Winnie or an Ashford Joy by Flow. The yarn is washed again and then dyed by Romilly using only plant dyes grown in our dye garden. This is probably some of the most ethical yarn you can buy as it is all hand made within a mile of where the sheep are kept and the dye plants grown.
The yarn from Flora is a 2 ply approximately Aran to Chunky and the yarn from Poppy is spun to between DK and Aran weight and is also 2 ply.
